What's your favorite way to earn #SwagBucks?

If you haven't joined Swagbucks yet, it's free and you get swagbucks to get you started when you sign up. You "earn" bucks for doing things you already do like surfing the net.   You can exchange your bucks for whatever you want from the swagstore.  One of the most popular items is the $5 Amazon gift card which is only 450 swagbucks.

Search & Win

Now you won't find everything under the sun from the Swagstore like these cool cell phone covers or cheap cell phone faceplates (or at least not that I've seen) but they have a very large selection to choose from in terms of items.  Whether you are looking for a new food steamer, a new Wii game or simply a greeting card, they have tons of Swag!

In addition, when you print and redeem coupons from the site you'll get 10 Swagbucks for EACH coupon printed and redeemed!!!

It doesn't stop there since you can trade in your old cell phone, watch Swag TV, trade in books and more to get your swag.  Just think you could pretty much spend nothing out of pocket by redeeming swagbucks for amazon gift cards!  How cool is that?

Most recently I watched a few videos to earn Swagbucks which I normally don't do very often but had a few minutes to spare and to be honest they were interesting!  All the ones I watched were from E entertainment so I got the low down on Hollywood!

What's your favorite way to earn Swagbucks?

Can you believe that Halloween is just around the corner?  I'm already seeing Christmas stuff in stores too!  Crazy.

Dress Up Room

If you haven't picked out a costume yet for your little one, you may want to check out JustKidCostumes.com as they also have a fun contest too!I

Here's the rundown of cool things:

They have over 3,000 costumes and accessories to choose from
You can shop without the fear of your children seeing inappropriate costumes like sexy kittens and bloody ghouls!  This actually happened to me once one year and it was a bit embarrassing.

Whats even cooler is that they have a dress-up room app!  All you have to do is upload your child's photo to the app and see what they look like in their costume.  It also has a share function should you want to show relatives.

Right now you can use coupon code BLOGGER10 for 10% off your order.  Get ahead of all the other Halloween crowds and nab your costume!  You can also hit up their Facebook page for other cool stuff!

28 Inexpensive Ways To Decorate Your Apartment

>> Sunday, September 25, 2011

apartmentsImage by reallyboring via Flickr
In these economic times, one has to think of saving money in every aspect of life. Our living spaces are getting smaller as well, with the rising expenses. It’s imperative to create space for everything in our apartments, while putting in all the required facilities. Here are 28 inexpensive ways to decorate your apartment and to make it a place you’ll be proud to call home.

De-cluttering and Evaluating

1.      Before you do anything to your apartment, go over it with a stern eye. Does the apartment reflect your personality? Do you feel totally at home in it? Does it give you a sense of peace?
2.      Throw away things you don’t need and organize what’s left over neatly
3.      Once your space is de-cluttered, evaluate the amount of space you have and how best you can change its look. Do you want to rearrange furniture, or buy a few more pieces? Will you paint your walls?

Decorating Your Living Room

4.      Your living room should be light, airy, welcoming and comfortable. Evaluate if these conditions are being met.
5.      Check if the wall paint is still good. If not, consider cheap ways to repaint your walls. Ask your friends to donate leftover paint cans; mix and match colors out of these and paint each wall a different color. Make sure that the overall scheme is complementary.
6.      You can consider wallpapering options as well, and get your friends to help you paper your walls.
7.      Decide on a focal point in your living room, where the eye should rest. This can be your TV console, or a collage wall, a large wall painting surrounded by plants and so on.
8.      Create a collage of pictures and things that make you happy on a large piece of board and put it up on one wall. You can come up with several more similar inexpensive ideas.
9.      If you have a glass topped reading table, layer it with colorful paper cutouts interspersed with pictures of your best memories. Now draw sheer transparent sheets over this picture collage and tape it neatly under the table.
10.   Buy broken mirror pieces at a crafts shop and build an attractive mirror collage board. You can paste attractive pictures and surround them with mirror pieces. The mirror pieces will reflect light and make your room look bigger.
11.   If you have wall to wall carpeting, give it a thorough clean and a shampoo. Get some colorful floor rugs and strew them around, under tables, couches and in between furniture. This not only hides a bad carpet, but adds color and charm to your living room.
12.   Check out garage sales and seconds sales for antique pieces of furniture for your living room. Even a beautiful side table, a glass-topped coffee table or a lovely magazine holder can make a difference.
13.   Evaluate your couch and see if you can afford a new one; if not, get your existing couch upholstered in cheerful fabric that goes well with the color theme in the room.
14.   Create a textured wall, by cementing over one wall and pasting pieces of colored glass and artistically broken tiles. Ask a tile manufacturer or wholesale dealer to donate broken tiles and glass pieces for your project.

Decorating Your Bed Room

15.   The focal point of your bedroom should be your bed. If your bed is satisfactory, buy a few colorful spreads or a faux fur blanket to spread on your bed. Colorful cushions and pillow slips can totally change the character of your room.
16.   As with the living room, evaluate the conditions of the wall. Paint them in bright colors if you want to, or consider wall fabric that matches your bedclothes.
17.   If you have a window in your bedroom, dress it up with frilly curtains. You can buy curtains for cheap or make your own from colorful or printed fabrics.
18.   Place your dressing table opposite the window so that the reflected light makes your room look bigger.
19.   Scrape, polish and varnish wooden furniture to give them a new look. The other option is to paint the furniture white or dull metallic gold for a new look.
20.   Put up some storage racks on the wall next to your bed and paint them a dull gold. You can organize books, knick-knacks, stuffed toys from your childhood or any other collection that you might have.

Decorating Your Kitchen

21.   Polish your copper pots and pans till they shine, and hang them up over your cooking island using pot hooks.
22.   Paint your kitchen in bright, warm colors such as yellow, bright blue or ivory.
23.   Another option is to layer bright, shiny and cheap monochrome tiles over white cement on your kitchen walls.
24.   Arrange your spoons, ladles and forks in attractive storage containers made of ceramic or plastic.
25.   Raid flea markets for attractive cartoon salt and sugar shakers, flour tins, bread boxes and other storage boxes.
26.   Get rid of mismatched containers; buy matched sets of containers wholesale, label them neatly and organize them neatly on freshly painted shelves.
27.   Give your counters, shelves and cabinets a good rub down; if they are made of wood, apply several coats of varnish, or paint them a dull metallic gold to reflect light.
28.   Put up glossy posters of your favorite dishes for a mouthwatering visual effect.

Take Advantage of Saving

Guest Post by Monique
Want to find more ways to save money? We ask that question everyday. There are many tips, tricks and advice out there, but the best answer that I can give is to make savings an everyday part of your life. For example when you go out to buy something for the household, make sure to get the best price. Taking an extra 5-10 minutes to save extra money will benefit you in the long run. If you replicate this decision making for everything, you will start saving more and more money. Then, take that savings and add the funds to your mutual fund or 401K to use your everyday savings to fund your retirement.
In addition, start looking for savings online instead of going to the department store. You can easily search for items by price and then use online coupons to save more on your purchase. If you want to buy a new toaster for your kitchen, go to Kmart’s site and search for them, select something on sale and use Kmart Coupons in the checkout. Similarly if you want to buy some clothes, look for a vendor like Nordstrom. They offer free shipping and returns and you can use Nordstrom Coupons. You pay less than the store price and you don’t pay anything for shipping.
Hope this helps and good luck saving money to pay for the fun things in life. Let us know if you find any sites to help us save on online shopping.

Mailbox Goodies

With school having started back it's been a challenge adjusting to the new schedule.  Not to mention it's been quite a wet Fall thus far, very strange.  This past week or two hasn't been too exciting in the way of mailbox goodies but the line up consists of the usual magazines including the Martha Stewart one!  I also received a box of Honey Nut Cheerios (which included a coupon) and a Kashi sample.  I should really remember to think of taking these magazines or a book with me to doctors appointments but always forget.  I ended up reading something about Colorado real estate while sitting in the waiting room and am awed by how beautiful areas of that State are.  The Fort Collins real estate properties look beautiful too.  I don't know a single soul in Colorado nor am I intending to move but somehow it took my mind off the dentist appointment I was about to have!

No matter what State you live in I can't tell you how cool Swagbucks is enough.  As most of you know I use Swagbucks quite regularly for searching the net and for the most part I have typically used my Swagbucks on gift items via Amazon gift cards for birthdays, holidays, etc.  But recently decided to use them on some printer ink.  This saved a few bucks in my pocket otherwise so that was nice.  What have you used your Swagbucks on or do you save them for something big?

If you received any special goodies in your mailbox I'd love to hear!

Myreviewsnow.net + Enter to win a Kohl's Gift Card

>> Monday, September 19, 2011

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of MyReviewsNow.net. All opinions are 100% mine.

How many times have you been considering buying something but you'd like to know if it's worth the money or maybe even what others think of it?   I come across this from time to time especially when I make bigger purchases or am deciding on gift ideas for family.  Let's face it though, no one wants to waste time searching page after page of search engine results trying to figure out what consumers thought. With so many different websites offering a wide and varied range of reviews, it can be hard to differentiate as to which site will provide you with a thorough and legitimate review.

That's where myreviewsnow.net may come in handy. It's still a fairly new site and I didn't quite find many reviews that stood out to me but they hope to offer online shoppers with a wide variety of online shopping choices and product reviews all in one location.  I did however find some articles on gift ideas that I otherwise may not have thought of.  If you've never heard of it now is the time to check it out especially with the holidays fast approaching.  Right now when you try myreviewsnow.net you'll have a chance to win a $350 Kohl's giftcard!

Here's how - Enter by liking myreviewsnow.net on Facebookand tweet the message "I love to #shopathome online!"

28 Thrifty Ways To Renovate Your Bathroom

>> Sunday, September 18, 2011

Red bathroomImage via Wikipedia

Your bathroom is definitely the smallest room in your home, unless you’re an oil prince. By unleashing your creative potential and loosening your purse strings just the tiniest bit, you can redecorate your bathroom and still have funds left over. Here are 15 thrifty, fun and creative ways to give your bathroom a new avatar.

Update Your Bathroom’s Ceiling

1.      Layer paint-able wallpaper on your ceiling; this wallpaper is textured and looks like embossed white plaster. With a paintbrush, you can highlight designs and even stick beads, bits of glass and metal to create interesting effects.
2.      Ceilings are the most neglected parts of bathrooms. Paint your bathroom ceiling a bright color such as egg yolk yellow to bring in more light.
3.      Cut a large piece of cardboard and paste interesting pictures on it. Create a border using beads or shells. Paste this collage in the middle of your freshly painted ceiling for a graphical effect. Cut the cardboard into a shape that works best with the shape of your bathroom.

Update Your Bathroom Walls

4.      Depending on the amount of light in your bathroom, you can paint it a light, bright color, or a bold deep color, all the way to the ceiling. It’s best to use a waterproof oil paint for your bathroom.
5.      Most bathrooms are small, to avoid cluttering the walls. However, you can still put up a small painting, a picture collage or even a decorate lamp or two on the walls.
6.      Paint your walls in a sea-wave pattern, or a sand-dune pattern to create an interesting effect. This works best if you have a slightly spacious bathroom.
7.      Laminate or frame colorful pictures from garden catalogs or art work that you can print from the internet. These are cheap to create and add an interesting touch to your freshly-painted walls.
8.      If your children are budding artists, scan their paintings into your computer and print them out on photo-quality paper. Laminate these and hang them up in your kids’ bathroom walls.
9.      Add a bead board or thick wainscoting along one wall. You can buy cheap bead boarding from home needs outlets, along with ready made wainscoting.
10.   A large mirror can do wonders to your bathroom’s lighting and looks. Mount a large mirror on one wall and place attractive lights over it.
11.   If you cannot afford a large mirror, paste small mirror pieces artistically on a large, colorful piece of cardboard and mount it on a freshly-painted wall.

Update Your Bathroom Floor

12.   You can paint on top of concrete or vinyl flooring to give it a pick-me-up. Prime your flooring using a specialty primer. Use a stencil to create tile borders and apply several coats of polyurethane to emulate plastic coating. Now you can create interesting textures, or paintscapes as you wish.
13.   Get a colorful bathmat with flowers, dolphins or cartoons on it. This creates a splash of color and looks great on a newly done floor.
14.   If your bathroom floor has old tiles on it, scrub them till they shine. Then carefully fill the cracks in between the tiles with paint in an alternate color. For example, if the tiles are white, paint the cracks deep blue or black for an interesting floor.

Update Your Shower Area

15.   Scour flea markets and garage discards for antique bath fittings and shower heads. When polished and done up, these can add great charm to your bathroom.
16.   Polish your taps, faucets and shower heads till they shine. If you have ceramic fittings or rusty steel ones, paint them all a cheerful color.
17.   Buy good polyester shower curtain fabric, and get your family pictures iron pressed on it. If you know how to, hem the curtains yourself or get a local seamstress to do it for you.
18.   If you don’t want to iron press family pics, create the shower curtain and hand paint seascapes or other designs on them.

Update Your Vanity Countertop

19.   Replacing your vanity countertop can be expensive. You can, however, hire a fabricator to resurface the top using fiberglass topping.
20.   If your vanity countertop is made of granite, a good scrubbing and polish should do the trick. If the corners are chipped, paste some white cement in the shape of the corner and paint it black.
21.   If you have a ceramic counter that’s chipped with age, fix the chipped parts with white cement and paint the entire countertop in a different color.

Update Your Lavatory Commode And Seat

22.   Scrub down your commode and fix any chips in the ceramic using a ceramic fixer tool kit.
23.   A fresh coat of bright paint does wonders to your tired-looking commode.
24.   If your lavatory seat looks jaded, replace it cheaply with a seat in a contrasting color.
25.   If you’ve got a creative hand, paint interesting graphics, flowers or mermaids on the commode sides, but keep the designs small.

Update Bathroom Cabinets

26.   Fitting new cabinets can be expensive, so scrub them down, prime and repaint them in a coordinated color.
27.   Paste bits of mirror pieces, sea shells or beads along with wainscoting of your cabinets to create texture and depth.
28.   Polish the cabinet pulls or paint them a bright gold or brassy color.

Pedicure

Thanks for the post, Arthur Lawrence

I used to think that getting a bi-monthly pedicure was frivolous. I couldn’t imagine paying for something that I was able to do on a regular basis myself. My mother and my sister always teased me and assured me that I didn’t know what I was missing. For my birthday last year, they gave me a gift certificate to get a spa pedicure. I was slightly offended because I thought they had gotten the gift as a gag (they always tease me for being thrifty). After I got a spa pedicure, my opinion on the frivolity of it changed. Now I don’t miss an appointment. It is the most relaxing experience. You sit in a large massage chair, watch direc TV, and read gossip magazines while your feet are soaking in warm water. They even give you a five minute foot and leg massage after they are done with the grooming. You get to pick your favorite polish and your toes look like they are professionally painted. My feet are thanking me, my mother and sister were right!
