Mailbox Goodies - Free Cat litter and Fancy Feast!

This was a pretty good week for coupons! I'd say the cats made out the best. About a year or two ago I signed up for Paw Points where every time I buy Fresh Step Cat Litter, I enter the code from the box and get points. These points add up and you can redeem them for cat toys, magazines, and even free item coupons. Most recently I cashed in my points for a free item coupon for a 14 lb box of Fresh Step. In addition on this particular day I also got Marie Claire and a $5.00 Walmart gift card. They just remodeled our store so I assume that's why that came.

In addition, I'm a member of Recyclebank where you can also earn points for recycling, buying eco-friendly items, watching videos, and taking surveys. I cashed in a few of my points for free item coupons for Fancy Feast. I received 3 coupons, each for 2 free cans of cat food!

In addition came Shape magazine and Huggies coupons. Inside Shape magazine was a Carefree sample. Always neat to find those.

And last but not least Parenting, Bloomburg Business week, Home Depot Garden coupons, and Pampers coupons came. Did any of you check out the issue of Bloomburg Business week regarding the mail?

Spring to Summer in a day

Summer already? Wow, I must of really missed spring with all the storms we had. All of a sudden it jumped to 90 degrees in the blink of an eye. Not all is a loss with all the flooding rain we've had. We now have all sorts of flowers popping up in the yard.

Having a couple of days to get out and enjoy the sunshine we made our way checking out all of what's perking up around our home. One of my favorite is the honey suckle which grows wild but has the most wonderful scent. It's not much of a cut flower but I think it would be so cool to see it as wedding flowers Toledo. To carry around such a sweet smelling bouquet would be so neat.

Another of my favorites that grows like crazy is our roses. We finally found the perfect spot for them and besides the beetles they grow amazingly! They are literally taller than I am. Most wedding florists in Toledo carry roses but I love big beautiful blooms with a fragrant scent.

Another flower that peeks my interest is something my sister had in her wedding and that's hydrangea's. I know Toledo wedding florists as well as so many others carry this big statement flower. I planted the one that is supposed to change colors throughout the season and bloom for a very long time. This will be our second year having it in the ground and it already has buds as well. Floor Project

A new project is underway for us. Yesterday I took the liberty of disconnecting my desk top (gasp), printers, desks, and so forth from the room we call the "office". We are getting ready to redo our wood floors so I pulled up the old carpet and yuck padding to unveil what's below and it's not pretty. Since our last floor project went so well we are going to give it a whirl on this room.

We did all the work ourselves and we're amazed at how nice the wood floors (100 yr old) turned out after sanding them down, stain and poly. We saved a ton of money doing it ourselves. The "office" floors however are much worse so we'll have a few challenges in this room. Initially we thought we could get these done faster but seems we may be a tad wrong. They need replacement pieces and/or filler to replace some pretty big cracks and we unleashed a painted canvas in the process so that will be a fun ordeal to get off.

Until then, being that the printer is disconnected I won't be printing many coupons unless it's a really good high value one in which case I may consider hooking it up since it's wireless. It's actually nice not to have to sit at the desk all the time. I'm looking forward to the transition. Have you ever done over your wood floors, if so I'm all ears for tips!

It's that time of year again

It's that time of year again when travelers hit the road for some fun summer adventures. This year we will be working a lot and probably won't be venturing off on an excursion or at least not yet. Last summer we traveled to Wisconsin for my sister's wedding. We packed up our suitcases and headed for the badger state. It was a long ride up there and believe it or not right off Lake Superior the wind was quite chilly to us despite it being July! It's a good thing she gave us warning to bring at least a sweatshirt or two.

We packed our suitcases as light as we could but still trying to remember everything we would need including rehearsal dinner clothes, bridesmaid dress and shoes, wedding clothes for the family, make up, jewelry, travel clothes, bathing suits, running around clothes and more. Now that I say that it doesn't seem so light does it?

We ended up stopping at a hotel to split up the ride and did the same on the way back. The ride was cramped but absolutely beautiful. Wisconsin has a lot of farmland and tons of cheese shops. We stopped for gas and I was browsing the store and found a cheese that squeaks when you eat it. Have you ever heard of that?

Despite the fact that we did stay at a hotel we made great ground by packing plenty of snacks and drinks. Whenever we stopped for gas we'd check our ice supply and use restrooms. A few things we take a long to snack on were slim jims, pop, water, chips, honey buns, cheese, crackers, smoked sausage, and even sandwich supplies. Making sandwich's in a car isn't the easiest but it's nice when you are in the middle of corn fields with no civilization as far as the eye can see.

We stayed up there to ring in July 4th as well and watched the fireworks off the lake. We could actually see the Duluth Minnesota side as well as the Lake Superior Wisconsin side. It was pretty cool and I love the quaintness of Superior. Traveling takes a lot out of you and it might be nice to just take it easy this summer if there's such a thing. One thing about coming back home is you can't seem to get there fast enough. There's truly nothing like your own bed!

My mailman brought breakfast!! The Kellogg's Mini Wheats with Fruit in the Middle came from Vocalpoint along with some great coupons like buy one get one free. The Oatmeal Squares also came with a $1.00 coupon and two boxes. Did your mailman bring you breakfast as well?

I also got a Remedy Life magazine and $10 off coupon code for Victoria Secret. Did any of you guys get this? It was in one of their sales brochures that they send out every so often in the mail. I always make sure to look threw them for an unexpected coupon. I think this is good off any order!

I also received a couple of magazines like Woman's Day and Food and Wine. Also from Kraft First Taste a free item coupon for Kraft touch of Philly shredded cheeses. I'm a big cheese fanatic so this was right up my alley! I actually think this bag of cheese is already demolished. I haven't been cooking that much since we installed
Floor Tiles in our kitchen because we've moved on to another room re-do. It sure does take a lot out of you energy wise and the clean up is horrendous. Store Brand Baby Formula Wins Case

Have you heard the news yet? Store brand infant formulas (storebrandformula.com) won a major victory when a U.S. Circuit Court upheld a $13.5 million false advertising claim against Enfamil maker Mead Johnson. This could really raise the bar especially when you factor in the price differentials. I can't tell you how many times I've been to the pharmacy for example to ask for an over the counter item and they lead me right to the generics because many have the same active ingredients as the name brand.

I can really see generics coming up in the ranks especially now that "The Court has made it clear that national brand and store brand suppliers are entitled to fairly compete and advertising abuses will not be tolerated," said Perrigo Chairman and CEO Joseph C. Papa in a statement. "We also appreciate the Court's recognition that PBM could lawfully compare its products to national brand products."

The case centered on the successful argument by PBM Products, Perrigo’s store brand infant formula business, that Enfamil’s advertisements of superiority to store brand formulas were false and misleading because store brand formulas offer the same nutrients at the same levels as Enfamil. I have heard this many times over about generic formula's having the same nutrients etc but I guess now it's completely official and recognized since this court case.

Interesting to say the least. What are your thoughts?

Feel Safe Running

If you are interested in going running then you want to make sure that you have all of the right things that you need, and most importantly this is going to be the shoes that you wear on your feet. It is very important that you are wearing shoes that are light in weight and that are designed for running so that you don't get any injuries, and so that your feet don't become sore. You are also going to want to have a light weight water bottle with you so that you can stay hydrated while you are running. Having comfortable clothes that aren't going to rub on your skin will also make running a lot easier.

Try to run with a partner if you are running in an area where you shouldn't be alone, and also make sure that you set your home security alarm (Home-Alarm-Systems.com/) as well. This is going to help you run worry free, and if you aren't stressed out about anything while you are running you are going to be able to get in a much better run.

Feeding the ducks and snapping shots

Have stale bread? If I'm not making croutons with my stale bread then I try and save it for the ducks. It's peaceful to run to the park and feed the ducks plus the kiddo enjoys it too. We sometimes take a picnic lunch and use the picnic tables available and just make a day of it. I like when parks have plenty of site furnishings so finding a trash can and/or water fountain is easily obtainable for that very reason.

At the park we often go to there is a pond that we walk around and a little trail through some woods with plenty of park benches should we need to break. I love nature and just being able to take in the scenery. However the last time I went was after a storm and many trees were down and it was quite creepy hearing the trees crack in the wind.

This photo is what we think was an Eagles nest. We watched them fly in and out a few times. If I had a cozy Adirondack chair with me I would have staked it out for a bit to try and catch them in action. If I plan on a leisurely visit to the park I always take my camera just in case I feel myself wanting to snap some of nature's beauty plus it makes for some very frugal wall art in your home!

Here's what I did with some butterflies photos my sister took. Saying she is a much better photographer than I is an understatement! She's had this hobby since she was young and even minored in it in college. I love her shots!
