When it comes to the upcoming holidays many people stand true to their holiday traditions. We have even developed a few of our own over the years as well as carried some over from our childhood. But we try to leave room for new traditions should they arise.
One thing stands true is the turkey dinner on Thanksgiving. And most of the time we typically get a Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. For the past years we've opted for a real tree but I'm sure they'll come a time where we may just want to take a break from it and throw up an artificial one. Mainly because of the mess all the pine needles make!
On Christmas Eve, we allow the little one to open one gift usually something small or a gift that came through the mail from an out of state relative. Last year I thought it would be fun if I got us all new pajamas to wear for Christmas morning. And while that's not a tradition, it was something new to throw in the mix. I also usually make a ham for Christmas dinner as well.

I started reading a book called Thanksgiving Tales, by Brian D Jaffe, and I've found it really enjoyable and intriguing. It's not just about happy endings or the perfect bird going on the table. It's about real life stories of authors and how they remember Thanksgivning whether it be dysfunctional families, burnt food, cultural differences, heart warming stories, joy or even football. I've related to some of the stories and found it interesting what memory (whether child or adult) stood out the most and has kept with them over the years.
