Extreme Couponing?

Did you see the show?  To be completely honest here, I didn't see the show nor did  I really even hear about it airing.  Shows you how much in the loop I am!  I think from the previews and such, that I pretty much get the gist of the show.  After spending much of my morning browsing other blogs, the feedback from this show seems negative with just a  touch of positive. 

The main question that most people suggested was how it portrayed couponers, how it could cause retailers/manufacturers to tighten down on coupon policies and not enough emphasis on donating.  I get the idea of stockpiling in the event of an emergency but, I can only imagine what such a massive amount of toilet paper does anyone besides collect dust if you are not going to donate it or ever use it in your lifetime?   But to each his own I guess.  I have a collection of glass bottles (ex. Sprite, Coke) from the old days that I don't and won't use, that collect dust or sit stored in a box, does that mean I'm a hoarder?  I doubt it. 

On the other hand we are a small family and strive to be as clutter free as possible.  Thus, our stockpile is at a minimum.   To some maybe not enough or too small.  But it suits us as a family and helps with space.  If  I miss a sale, no big deal!  If I catch a sale great!  I don't base my life around couponing and stockpiling.   Deals are like a stop sign, around every corner.  If you miss one today they'll be a new one tomorrow. 

I saw the video above on Jill Cataldo and how she was asked to be apart of the beginnings of the show but later was pleased to know that she wasn't after the show took on a whole different meaning of "extreme" and "hype".  I mean if you really sit and think about it, how many stores will allow you to nab 300  toothbrushes or 1100  boxes of Total cereal for free with coupons  in one shopping excursion?  How many does that leave for the next couponer or family?

I wasn't even going to comment or write about this at all but after seeing the video, I really couldn't help myself.  What's your food for thought?

Almost Free Holiday Decor

For the last several years, we have lived in a rural area where nature freely provides most of our holiday decor. All it takes is a walk through the woods to find evergreen and cedar branches to decorate both the interior and exterior of our home. We also have holly bushes with red berries to snip and bring to the house for some added color. I collect baskets so there's always an abundance of sizes and shapes available to use as part of our holiday decor. Pinecones are abundant near our house. A basket filled with pinecones that have a little essential oil on them and a holiday colored bow tied to the handle can be used in almost any room of the house as part of my Christmas decor. We can always find a few small trees to place in a container and use on either side of our front steps. We feed birds year round. Their bright colors naturally add holiday red to the nearly bare limbs on the trees in our yard. We even add a Christmas bow and a single strand of white lights to our large tray feeder in the yard.

After a walk in the woods to select our free holiday decor items, we like to settle down with hot cocoa and cookies and watch DIRECTV offers to relax.

Computer Monitor Upgrade

I've recently been looking into upgrading my desk top monitor.  Currently my husband has a HDMI cable for his monitor since it's HD quality.  The difference is night and day compared to mine which isn't even HD compatible.   I'm on the look out for just that right sale before I take the plunge. 

What's really at the top of my list is a new graphics card.  We dabble in gaming here and there so I'd like a new graphics card and maybe even some Toslink digital audio cables as well.  Right now I game on my laptop since it's new in the technology area and has HD built in.  Call me old fashioned but I still like sitting at  my desk top nonetheless! 

Whether it's Panasonic, Asus or other we will definitely do our research before purchasing a monitor.  My husband is big on research when it comes to maximizing the life out of tech purchases as well as price, reviews and ratings.  One of his favorite places to visit is CNET when it comes to checking things out.  He built the desk top computers we use right now which makes for easy upgrades inside and out!

Holiday in Branson

Macy's Holiday Shopping

When we head to the mall we usually park in the Macy's parking lot because it's our focal point to remember where we parked!  Whether we shop at Macy's or at least "window browsing" while passing through the mall, there are tons of gift ideas there.  Macy's does have some deals that are worthy of checking out! 

What items make a good holiday gift? Well my personal favorite this year is the Acqua di Gioia by Georgio Armani.  Even we frugal bugs like to smell good!  I've been in love with the men's fragrance for years and now there's a wonderful women's fragrance that I adore.

This would be a perfect gift for a spouse or loved one that digs the newest scents or simply just likes to try new scents.  I've actually had this on my list for about a month now.  I received a sample of it passing through Macy's and was "wow'd" at how pleasant the smell was.

Piggy Paint Giveaway ENDED

The nail polish remover works great and has virtually no odor unlike the ones you might be traditionally using.  This is perfect for little girls just starting out with painting their nails.   Not only that but it's a clear liquid so you don't have to worry so much about some of it accidentally getting on their clothes or the carpet. It even contains natural oils that protect your little lady's nails and cuticles.  

The Forever Fancy color it HOT!  It's a nice shade of pink that has just enough Red in it to work well over the Holidays.  It's low odor, goes on wonderful and we love it!!!

Pier 1 Holiday Style and Toys for Tots
