Ok, well first of all in the beginning of my frugal adventures and browsing from site to site I came across a post about "
Shop At Home" (I will not mention which site as there are many).
Shop At Home was claimed to be a site that gave you rebates back when you shopped online. Well, me being unaware was like hey! - cool! - maybe this will be like
Ebates. So, I downloaded the tool bar and signed up.
(A lot of frugal sites recommend it, however I do not! I am NOT knocking anyone! If it works great for you -great - keep it, but I would seriously take caution and not download the toolbar!)
After some time, I just wasn't pleased with it. It seemed too quirky for me. I just assumed go through
Ebates -which actually works!! (I have already gotten money from them.) So, I went to my programs and deleted the tool bar and all. At this point you would think that all would be gone from my computer. Well, I was wrong!
I noticed that when I used IE, it was acting up. But, I didn't think much about. I mostly use FF anyway. Well, one evening browsing the web, my
Anti-Virus popped up!!! I was like WTF..lol - literally!! So, I called over my handy dandy computer "geek" husband-- I mean that in the most respectful way, without people like that what would us "normal joes" do about something like that besides probaly lock our computer up! Anyway, he had me download this FREE Program called
MalwareBytes to scan my PC and delete all the malware this "Shop At Home" put on my computer when I had downloaded the toolbar.
He basically described it to me as - malicious software that makes it easier for people to put viruses on your computer. It's not a virus but it acts as if your computer is sick and makes it easier to infect. So, now all the malware is gone! I will run this scan at my own free will probably like every other month just for my own peace of mind. The anti-virus that caught this was
AVG...it's a free service and is has very HIGH ratings. I have paid for Norton, and this and that in the past, but this by far is that best we've found (for free anyway).
I'd like to know what your thoughts are- any problems with Shop At Home? Work Great for you? The Malware Bytes program that I mentioned above is definitely worth doing regardless if you've had any issues or not. And I will add, that it is possible that I got the bad batch toolbar, but even so, I'm done with that mess!
