Okay for the longest time I have been on the hunt for a Sun Tea Jar with an affordable price tag. But to be honest, I hardly ever see any at all in any store. Of course I have found plastic ones but that's not what I'm going for. I wanted a glass jar and well.... I improvised ;)
This is my second big daddy pickle jar because well it's awesome! The first one I was initially going to make a change jar and decorate it but instead it became my tea jar. There is nothing like fresh sun tea! I add about 1 cup of sugar to make mine sweet and am going to start adding lemons to see how that works out. Basically I add 3 family sized tea bags to the gallon and let it sit in the sun for about 4 hours with the lid not exactly sealed completely.
Talk about a refreshing treat in the hot Summer months! And, well I didn't spend anything extra trying to find a jar for it ;) I just used what I had and works great for me.

Great idea! I may try this. Did you dishwasher the jar first? I'd be worried about a pickle flavor :)
Happy Sunday!
Great idea! I love reusing things. My hubs is taking an empty tequila bottle and drilling holes in if so I can use it as a vase!
Yes, we had to wash the jar about 4 times to get the pickle smell out but it was definitely worth it!!
I've never had sun tea. Can it be flavored? Sounds nummy!

Awesome! Now I just have to buy an industrial sized jar of pickles! LOL
thats what I use! I was upset because all I could find were plastic also(what it is up with that anyways?)
I'm using an old pickle jar to store lentils in. They're great!
Walmart carried large jars of pickles in their bulk section. They're around $5, and they are huge.
I use jars for everything - including sun tea. Did you know you can just set it on your counter and in a couple hours you have sun tea? Me either til I tried it!
I did some reading around and it seems some say that suntea can be dangerous as it never heats up enough to kill of bacteria. They suggest putting the tea bags in the water and putting it in the fridge and letting it steep like that over night. Works well!
I still make some tea out in the sun, but try to leave it out for 2hrs or less. I don't know if it really matters or not - i've had suntea since I was young and never had a problem that I know of. :)
